It’s Going To Be Okay

Letting Go

Lately, I’ve been preoccupied with wanting to figure out my future and more specifically my life after college. As some of you may know, I’ve been in college a pretty long-time due to changes and breaks that have happened in my life. The fact that school has taken so long has already had me frustrated in ways you can’t imagine. You can read all about it in my post-career chasing.

So yeah, I’ve recently struggled with the “what do you want to do with your life” question. I changed my major last year to something completely new to me. But it’s okay because having a degree in Communications will allow to seek various opportunities. I mean I don’t think I need to have it all figured out right now, who does?!

I’ve decided not to worry about it anymore. Because I’ve noticed that when I start to worry, tremble, or be anxious about it then it starts to take over my days and moments where I’m trying to just live.

The Lord has been reminding me lately of these four little words, “it’s going to be okay” whatever happens after college or tomorrow, I am not in control because the God of power, mercy, grace, and love is holding me and my life in His HAND. It’s amazing to think about the realness of being held in the hands of Jesus. Think about it… His abundant love will see me through this frustration and bring me peace. I wanna rest in Him knowing that He has amazing plans for me, whatever they may be. I want to surrender myself to Him knowing that He is in control of anything I may go through. It reminds me of the verse “we know that God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose” as long as you’re in His purpose. Yes, there’ll be moments of struggle, pain, sorrow, but overall Jesus is the curator of my life, He can handle it all.

Here are a few words that are helping me right now…

‘Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ replaces worry at the center of your life.
Philippians 4:6-7
“Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes.
Matthew 6:34

The way I started to let go of control lately has been to relax on the whole job thing and just focus on the right now. I try my best to pray in every moment of worry or frustration and specifically ask the Lord to take those thoughts away from me. I’d rather enjoy my days with family and friends and be able to live peacefully with no anxious thoughts running through my head, don’t you?

I know that it can be hard at times, especially if this is something you maybe have never practiced. Trust me, after you let go of whatever you are holding, this amazing blissful relief will come upon you. There’s no reason to spend our lives always concerned or worried about something that is completely out of our control because Jesus doesn’t want that for us.

Ways I practice letting go of control

Prayer

Talk to Jesus, sometimes I write my prayers out, other times I’m driving somewhere and having a conversation with Him. It’s pretty awesome.

Sharing my struggles with a friend

Talk about your struggles with your close friends, it’s so important to receive advice, or a listening ear from someone, they love you.

Reading God’s word

Dive into what the Lord wants to teach you, read scriptures that pertain to what you’re going through.

Writing my worries down on a list

By writing them down you can create a checklist of sorts and cross each one off after you’ve surrendered it.

Trying my best to live in the moment

Exercising, walking with my pups, spending time with family, focusing on school work… etc. Do the things you love and enjoy them.

These are ways that I’ve practiced letting go. Try them! They might work for you or they might not, but through the process, you will begin to learn ways that help you best. I believe that the Lord will see us through any hardship in our lives and the most important thing to do is to surrender all our worries, concerns and struggles to Him. It’s this sort of release that will bring you freedom and most of all peace about the situation.

We hope this post would inspire anyone going through a similar situation because life is hard. We all have moments of uncertainty or struggle that hit us in the face. Surround yourself with uplifting and encouraging people, and rest in Jesus as He continues to shape and mold your future. The Lord is constantly reminding me that no matter what I go through or what decision I made need to make, it’s going to be okay.
