Life is funny…and completely unexpected. I’ve lived in Houston now for 8 years. Five of those years, I was living here so reluctantly as I was praying every day that I could move back to California. But God had other plans. I was working at a great church – Houston’s First Baptist, getting to lead worship for and meet amazing people. This is where I was supposed to be.
Then, after five years of praying to be back in California with my family, God brought my family to Houston! Wild, totally unexpected and to be honest, not what I wanted. I wanted out of Houston and now, God was giving me more reason to stay in Houston lol. Six months later, I meet a super handsome and super intriguing Texan man who would eventually become my husband and suddenly…Houston’s not so bad lol.
My family is here. I am now starting a family here. I have learned to LOVE Houston, which I never thought I would ever say. Now, I still always complain about the weather, but that’s what you do in Houston. Eat and complain about the heat. Really though, Houston has become home.
So what’s this life update?!
We’re moving…TO CALIFORNIA
I never ever ever thought that Aaron would want to live in California, but when the opportunity came up, we just couldn’t say no.
What will we be doing?
Aaron will continue to work for Marketing Refresh and I will be the worship leader for The Crossing Church in Costa Mesa. We couldn’t be more grateful for the way that the Lord has orchestrated this entire thing. From Aaron being able to continue to do what he loves, with the company that he loves to do it with and for the new opportunity that I have been given with The Crossing and the ability to join their team and help make a difference in SoCal….we’re pumped!
We really are so thankful for Houston’s First and the people we have been surrounded by over the past several years. It was here that I learned about and grew my passion for ministry, it was here that Aaron and I met and first served together, it was here that we made great friends and the Lord established the first two years of our lives together. We are so grateful.
So you can see how I did not expect that once I finally started settling into life in Houston, we would move to California. But I’m even more thankful. Everything that has led us to this decision has been so undeniably divine that there was no way we could say no.
A little recap…
Since Aaron and I got married, we have remodeled a house to be a rental, purchased a second house that we thought would be home for a while, started remodeling this house with DIY projects, and now we are working furiously to finish the remodel so that we can rent this one out as well before our big move out West! It’s crazyyyyy!
It’s funny because we have often talked about how this was going to be the year that we had our first Christmas in our newly remodeled home, but it looks like the Big Man upstairs had some other plans in store for us, and we’re perfectly fine with that. We’re looking forward to finding great renters for our home, and we are beyond excited to be in the Costa Mesa area real soon!
When is all of this going down? I’m so glad you asked!
Aaron and I will be moving the first week of September. That means from now until the end of August, we want to see all of our Texas people…and as much as possible. We will still be making trips back to Houston, after-all a good portion of our family is here.
We have a lot to prepare and to get in order before we venture out West, but seeing every one of you over the next several weeks is our top priority.
Here are some photos of our new home from our visit a few weeks ago.
What’s next?
I’m excited to share about this new adventure and season in life as we continue to walk it out! What’s fun is that Sami & I will continue this blog as a space to share our passions and inspirations, but now we get to share from different parts of the country.
